The first race was held in dry and sunny conditions. YAC had a good turn-out for the first race of the season with 42 athletes taking part. For many of our young athletes, this is their very first cross country race so well done to all those who competed.

As in previous years, Young Athletes Club is strongest in U9 girls with YAC finishing the top club in this age group. We have won the trophy in the U9 girls for the last 2 years so the girls have made a good start to retaining the trophy this season.

YAC U9 Girls – 1st

With the first 4 to count on points, the YAC girls packed top placings with 6 athletes finishing together.

40 athletes took part in this age group.

  • Arabella Wilson          5th
  • Esme Finch                  6th
  • Tabitha Brown             7th
  • Robin Simons              8th
  • Annabel Bailey            9th
  • Sophie Robinson          10th
  • Hollie Tappin               11th
  • Fran Long                    13th

YAC U9 Boys – 5th

With more competition and fewer athletes, the YAC team is in 5th place after race one.

Jack Burke was the first YAC finisher in 11th place and Sam Allen and Kian Hooker came 21st and 22nd.

Alex Didaskalou ran well for 25th with Joe Claydon in 30th and Ben Cadge in 51st place.

62 athletes took part.

YAC U11 Girls – 2nd

The YAC girls did very well to come 2nd team with Ayla Darcy leading way in 3rd and Charlotte Burnham close behind her in 5th place. The next finisher was Libby Daunter in 17th and Cariad Norris in 20th.

We then had a spread of athletes through the field;

  • Jodie Mandeville         27th
  • Lucy Taylor                  31st
  • Sofia Sherratt              33rd
  • Hannah Underdown    39th

YAC U11 Boys  – 4th

In the largest field with 80 athletes, our YAC team ran well to take 4th place.

Nicholas Didaskalou came first for YAC in 7th place with Toby Long and Luke Stables having their own battle in 16th and 17th. The next two close together were Aiden Roe in 26th and Connor Tinker in 28th.

  • James Garner              47th
  • Fergus Atkinson          52nd
  • Fynn Tinker                 57th
  • Kay Davies                   61st

What to do next

Sue Goode is our Cross Country Team Manager.

Please reply to Sue Goode directly or myself or Gillian if your athlete would like to compete;

Email:  susan.goode@talktalk.net

There is no limit to numbers so if your child would like to run, tell us and Sue will put your child’s name on the team sheet. Please be prepared to arrive at the course 1 hour before race time. This will allow us to take your child on a lap of the course and do a warm up. Some cross country venues do not have much space for parking so allow plenty of time to get your child to the YAC base which will be by the YAC flag!

Age Groups

The age groups are age at 31st August 2015.

If your child is 8 or less before 31st August 2015 they will be in U9s.

If your child is 9 before 31st Aug 2015, they will be in U11s.

If your child is 11 before 31st Aug, they will be in U13s

Minimum age – we suggest your child should be at least 7 to compete in the U9s races.

Otherwise they may find the experience somewhat daunting. Please check with us if you need advice.

Parent Helpers

We would also like to hear from parents who are attending the races and who are interested in helping

Sue Goode our YAC team manager to organise the children.

This involves helping them with pinning numbers on vests, helping with warm ups and cheering them on! We also need race marshalls who can be on the course.

YAC Website

Please check our website and or Facebook for more cross country information as we get it. We will post course details and race updates nearer the time. All information will be put on the website so check it out!!
