Border league Cross country Match 2 at Lightwater – Sunday 7th December 2014

Young Athletes Club had 29 athletes running in the second Border league cross country of the season held at Lightwater last Sunday. The sun came out after a grey start and all athletes tried their best on the sandy, stony, undulating course.

Young Athletes Club is now lying in 4th position in U9 Boys, U11 Boys and U11 Girls. However, our U9 Girls are in 2nd place so we hope we can stay there for the next 2 matches.

U9 Girls

Katie Sakaria again raced to a fine win out of 46 athletes so she is looking good for a top spot placing overall.

Emily Burke running her first Border League came an excellent 3rd so very competitive between our top two girls.

Connie Mortimer was 11th

Melissa Beaghan also new to the Border League took 28th place

Sara Hamilton-Wilkes again 29th

U9 Boys

Our best finisher this time was Jack Burke (clearly the Burke children are strong cross country athletes) in 17th out of 38 boys.

Kian Hooker gave Jack a run for his money coming just behind him in 18th

Aiden Roe 20th

Max Lafreniere 35th

U11 Girls

Guildford must be delighted to have gained athletes from Young Athletes Club in the form of Susie Lecoutre another impressive 1st with Eliza Sutton 8th and Phoebe Matravers 12th.

As a result G&G came 1st team overall in this tough age group with 90 finishers.

YAC athletes also did well with 3 girls coming in the finish together;

Charlotte Burnham showing marked improvement from last time in 9th

Ayla Darcy 10th

Isabel Bull 11th

Cariad Norris   26th

Ebony Hooker 45th

Silvia Harrop-Lopez 59th

Eme Cosh 62nd

U11 Boys

Our top 4 boys managed to stick closely together in this race so earned good team points;

First home for YAC was Leon Lafreniere with a jump up to 14th place

Nicholas Didaskalou close on his heels in 17th

Not far behind were Michael Gar 21st and Toby Long 22nd

Chris Baker 29th

Sam Hinton 38th

James Garner 42nd

Thanks again to Sue for being Team Manager helped a lot by Bea Lafreniere and by Vera Neale.

NEXT RACE is at Guildford Stoke Park on Sunday 1st February 2015

We want to see lots of blue YAC vests since this is our home match.
